On December 15th, in collaboration with Launch Tennessee, Rockridge Venture Law® hosted a virtual workshop on The Nuts and Bolts of SBIR: From an SBIR Application Reviewer.

Federal SBIR/STTR programs award $3.2 billion in high-risk R&D funding annually to qualified small businesses developing game-changing technologies. Attorneys Kevin Christopher and Shayn Fernandez walked attendees through the process of obtaining SBIR federal grants, the goals of which are to stimulate technological innovation, meet Federal R&D needs, and increase commercialization to transition R&D into impact. Leveraging his past experience as an SBIR application reviewer for the NIH, Kevin Christopher also shared best practices for complying with SBIR regulations, including use of proceeds, IP rights, and submitting reports.

The slide deck from the presentation can be accessed here, and a recording of the event will be available soon.

For a written overview of SBIR, check out Kevin Christopher’s article on SBIR – An Entrepreneur’s Best Source of Early-Stage, Non-Dilutive Funding.
