Rockridge Venture Law® leads Social Impact Workshop around E-Commerce at Global B Academics Conference.

On August 5th, RVL led a workshop entitled “Creating a Sustainable Business in an On-Demand, Make-It-Cheap E-Commerce Culture,” focused on corporate messaging, operations, and principles promoting sustainability in a hyper-driven e-commerce culture. RVL’s workshop built upon its recent focus article Amazon v. Earth: Algorithmic Ranking Bias against Sustainable Products and What We Can Do About It.

Rockridge Founder and Principal Kevin Christopher led the workshop:

E-Commerce was trending steeply upwards the last few years but has now exploded as a result of COVID. Consequently, mission-oriented and value-aligned companies must have clear strategies for messaging and positioning their brands when competing with a wave of digital upstarts and marketplace platform bottlenecks (Amazon, Etsy, etc.). We’re working with clients to help them transform their businesses and IP strategies in this new era.

RVL is Tennessee’s only business certified for by both B Lab and 1% For The Planet for its mission-oriented business model. In addition to providing IP and tech law services to corporations, governments, and entrepreneurs, we practice what we call Give-10, whereby we give 10% of our time in the form of pro bono support, and 10% of our revenue in the form of sponsorships, to environmental stewardship and social impact nonprofits. Our 2020 nonprofit partners include: green|spaces; I.M.P.A.C.T. Cookeville; Living Lands and Waters; Mayhem Mission; Mustard Seed Ranch; and NC State Environmental Impact Competition.

About B Academics

The Global B Corp Academic Community (B Academics) is a nonprofit network of educators and researchers from around the world who are committed to accelerating the sustainable business movement by studying the global movement of B Corporation certification and benefit corporations. B Academics work with each other, the global B Lab network, and the B Corp community to share best practices and identify opportunities for collaboration with regard to research, teaching, and experiential learning. The 2020 Global B Academics Paper Development Workshop held on August 5, 2020, aims to help the research community define and push boundaries of B Corps research, especially as related to empirical methods and research design. RVL is excited to support the B Academics in the development of analytical data leading to better business models, laws and regulations that contribute to a more sustainable world.
